Neeson wants uncertainties on Larne line removed after report

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 5th Apr 2004

East Antrim Alliance member Sean Neeson has welcomed the recent report on the future of the railway network in Northern Ireland.

Mr Neeson said: "The new report is very positive about the future of the development of railways in Northern Ireland. While the future of the Larne line is still not guaranteed, at least it puts forward a very powerful case for its retention.

"However, underinvestment in the railways took place during the years of direct rule and it is now a matter of urgency that devolution is restored so that local politicians can take the decision to provide the necessary finance.

"I am now seeking a further meeting with NIR to discuss the implications of the report so that the present uncertainties about the Larne to Whitehead line can be removed."
