McCarthy disappointed at Strangford marina refusal

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 2nd Apr 2004

Responding to the news that Plans for a £53m marina development on the shores of Strangford Lough have been turned down by NIO Minister Angela Smyth, Assembly member for Strangford, Alderman Kieran McCarthy stated:

"This is hugely disappointing news for Strangford. After the loss of so many jobs in the constituency recently, people were very anxious that the marina got the go-ahead.

"This decision represents a blow to future employment and a further loss to our local economy. I recognise that there are environmental concerns, but they could have been dealt with adequately."
