Neeson backs postponement of gas price increase

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 31st Mar 2004

ALLIANCE Spokesperson on Enterprise, Trade and Investment Sean Neeson MLA has backed calls for Phoenix Natural Gas to postpone its proposed 20 percent price increase.

Mr Neeson, former Vice Chair of the Assembly's Enterprise, Trade and Investment committee, said: "Phoenix gas have a moral responsibility to respond to a demand from the General Consumer Council and the Energy Regulator to freeze any increased prices until such times as the true nature of the gas increases from Centrica become clear.

"As yet, no deal has been struck with the natural gas supplier, and to increase prices now would be a clear case of Phoenix jumping the gun."
