ALLIANCE Education Spokesperson Eileen Bell has said that future transformation of two North Down schools to integrated status shows that parental support for integrated education is on the rise.
Parental ballots at Groomsport Primary and Glencraig Primary showed unanimous support for the two schools to transform to integrated status.
Mrs Bell, who is a former North Down Assembly member, said: "Parents have clearly demonstrated their overwhelming support for integrated education in North Down, support which is growing across Northern Ireland.
"Groomsport is a growing area and it is important that the integrated school is properly supported by the local education board to cater for the increasing number of families there.
Likewise, I am sure this news will be warmly welcomed by the people of Glencraig. Both schools have an exciting future educational ahead of them, and I wish them all the best in bringing young people together."
